I have a macbook pro 2009 with the standard Nvidia chipset, and i get good frames in minecraft, but every 10 seconds, the frames will drop to 10 for about 2 seconds, and it's VERY annoying.
Is there any fix for this?

Uninstall your anti-malware or other software that's routinely calling home for something.
Thank you for the response, I appreciate it. The problem is I get GOOD framerates in minecraft (40 - 50) and its just SOMETIMES (When I first start the game) the rates will be at 40 - 50, and then randomly have a hiccup spell every 10 or 15 seconds, where there will be a brief 1 second lag of 5 frames a second.
I don't know if this is due to Nvidia or Java, or the Macbook.
Any other advice folks?
Install Little Snitch, it will pop up a window and/or record your outgoing connections to find out what's interrupting your gaming network.
Also look in Acitivity Monitor for any other backgorund processes, ask on the Minecraft forums about the issue perhaps others know.
