We are now receiving MULTIPLE calls per day saying that we should not use our Apple computer for anything to do with financial information until we call this Apple Support line at 844-383-4621. It is no doubt a scam. Very annoying. I would think Apple would want work with the FTC and FBI to stop these scams right away. Apple should spend whatever resources are necessary to stop it. It directly affects the brand name. It's very annoying to Apple customers and If someone is fooled by it that will no doubt be the end of their Apple purchases. The other question I have is how do these people know you are an Apple user? Maybe just playing the odds but with all the hacks and leaks is it possible Apple has been hacked?

If you've ever registered an internet-domain-name with a domain-name registrar (example: GoDaddy.com) and used your own name and phone number without the 'security' option to keep that info hidden, you could be a target of a phone scam.

On the other hand, when my son was at college last year, he received a legit call from the school's computer tech support folks telling him they had detected that his computer had the Mac Flashback trojan that was going around in the spring of 2012. They guided him through downloading and installing the Apple updates that disabled the virus.

This is a well documented scam. Often they will talk you through giving them access to your hard drive where they can do one of several things to it, including holding your computer hostage until you give them your credit card number. It's been going on for some time now and there are at least a couple of purps in jail over it.

Here's an US/FTC notice on Tech Support Scams.
