I have stayed away from Limewire on principle. On the PC, Limewire used to install Spyware. In fact, a host of antidote utilities popped up to help people rid their PCs of such spyware, or to counteract the attempts by Limewire to install such programs. Do a google search with terms like "Limewire, spyware" and you'll see a lot of material. Limewire used to have a premium version that costed money and supposedly that version did not install other unwanted software. Now the premium version makes other claims such as faster downloads. I don't really believe much this company claims as it has an unsavory history.

Now, Limewire claims "No Spyware, No Adware, No Trojan Horse" etc. And probably on a Mac, you don't have to worry much about those things. Apparently they have reformed. But I still don't trust them and never will.

I have no interest in rolling those dice with such a company, who frankly, I consider to be dishonest because of its sordid history of installing spyware in the past. Spyware, spam and the like have done more to damage the internet computing world than anything else. So on principle, I will have nothing to do with Limewire.

If you search around, you will find complaints about Limewire causing instability problems on Macs. Not all Macs, but a large number of complaints have surfaced. I long ago briefly installed Limewire on an old computer to see how it worked. I removed it quickly -- it wasn't very reliable and the stability of the Limewire program was not very high.

I'm not sure what use people have for Limewire other than copy music, videos and such. I think using iTunes instead results in much higher quality music and it's certainly more honest!

Just my opinions -- some will not agree I am sure.
