Why won't Genius accept my Apple ID?

I put in the ONLY Apple ID i've ever had, which currently works to buy music and download apps, but when i try to turn Genius on (which I've never used), there is a message that says "You must complete the entire form." The only two remaining options are an AOL ID or "create a new Apple ID" which of course I don't want to do since that will create huge confusion.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
