Freezing Playback Issue :(

I can't edit using this software because when I playback the clips they are playing freeze-like, and I can't match it to music. Can someone tell me how to fix this? I have a brand new Mac, and I shoot with a Canon Mark 5D II. Which setting should I put on the new project.

Also on rendering I selected low quality in the playback to see if that would help with the issue but it doesnt. Im desperate please help!

There could bemany reasons why you;re not seeing any playback.

what codec is your footage in?

What sort of drive are you playing it from? Not you system drive?

What are the settings of the project are you working in.

do you have lighting, depth of field, motion blur turned off?

have you set playback quality to low, note this is different from render settings, which will effect the render not the playback.
