Hey Nicholas,
We have an article that goes over what Gapless Playback is here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1797
To turn it off, there's a simple process that the following document goes over, and I pasted the steps below for you:
iTunes 10 for Mac: Transitions between songs

To override crossfading for many songs at once:
- To select adjacent songs, Shift-click the songs. To select nonadjacent songs, Command-click the songs.
To select all the songs in a playlist, click Command-A.- Choose File > Get Info.
- Click Options.
- Choose Yes from the Gapless Album pop-up menu.
Cheers,
David
This doesn't work in iTunes 11. There's no longer an option to turn gapless on/off. Apparently it is on all the time.
I'm having this same problem - each time I launch it scans the same 122 or so songs for gapless playback info.
Chris:
Sorry to hear you're having the same issue. I still don't have an answer. But, I must admit, it's comforting to know I'm not alone.
Nick
I've got the same Problem...
No solution?
Hi, Ruebyi,
Did you manage to find some solution?
As of the latest iTunes (12.1.0.50) this seem to have been fixed!? At least, it does not happen on my machine any more. Woohoo!
Got the new iTunes today, the problem is definitely still there.
