suddenly no mail connection?

I woke up this morning and suddenly "mail" does not connect to my accounts in gmail. I have uninstalled them and reinstalled them. I have made sure they are functional thru Google. I have taken them "offline", then "online". I have tried the Doctor, I get a green light for connection, but the lil wheels just spin with no diagnosis. Any suggestions?
