Unable To Initialize Capture Device

I have Final Cut Pro 6 and have only used HD footage on it.

I just hooked up my old miniDV player and wanted to log and capture.

I got the following error message

Unable to Initialize Capture Device

Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips.

This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.

How do I log and capture. I NEED this footage. I get so close to completion and something always has to happen.

Go to the EASY SETUP menu...choose DV/NTSC. Now try.

Go to the menu Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup and choose DV-NTSC:

Assuming you are in an NTSC region. Then click Setup and if the DV deck is connected, you should be good to go.

THANK YOU BOTH. I got it. Now, I have to make it work.

I'm making a demo movie (it's a long story). The CLIMAX the CLIMAX of the movie, the footage is GONE. So, I have to use an actress' audition for the climax. Yep bizarre. Yet oddly, it's gonna work.
