The situation I descibed is not the only bug. In the other old project an image of a "native clip" is substituted for a second with a clip from another project. Incredible. I tried to click both "ignore" and "OK", when the pop up window asked about old projects..

May 25, 2013 11:15 AM in response to Valyaby F. Carl McIvor1,★HelpfulHi Valya
Try uninstalling FCPX and reintalling it fresh, trash preferences and render files. I have an iMac similar in spec to yours but a bit faster processor. FCPX works fine with it. I do experience an occasional hickup, but noting fatal to using the program successfully. I do notice that some of the 3rd party plugins don't seem to work properly or takes a long time to render.
I know that you are not going to "throw away" your machine, but why not give it to a charitable organization. Many would love to have it. Then go buy yourself a new Mac as best as your budget allows.
Regards
Carl
