Is my iPhone 5 charger cable covered under the AppleCare warranty?

Is my iPhone 5 charger cable covered under the AppleCare warranty? I need to know because mine no longer works and I don't want to have to pay if I don't need to for a new cable. I have heard that you can but better safe than sorry right. 🙂

Also I know that there are two size cables the regular (0.5 m) and a longer one (1 m). Does anyone know if instead of getting my broken cable of regular size if i could get the longer one. Just wondering.
