Is there a limit to changing Apple ID country?

Hi Everyone,

I am a frequent traveller (mainly between the USA and the UK) and get the message that I can't access a particular store.

From reading other forums I understand I can change my country....if I do will I lose apps purchased in my previous country?

Is there a limit on how often I can change my country of choice?

Will I be able to access all my apps regardless of which store they were purchased in?

Thanks for your help

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

We are many Europeans that move to different countries often because of jobs.

How would it be if Americans would have all these problems everytime they move to a different state?

Now that even roaming charges are about to dissapear inside the EU, it's incredible that Apple still makes it so difficult to us.

And if we move often, we don't like carrying books, CD's and DVD's upndown, so we are clear target customers for online services...

I would also like to know about any limits to switching app store countries. I have valid billing and credit card addresses in two countries, and desperately need to download an app that isnt available in my iTunes country store (a controller for my thermostats).

Will I be able to quickly change country, download the app, then change back again?

No. But you will not be able to update them until you switch to the Apple ID and store from which they were purchased.

I don't think there is.

Yes and no, as explained earlier.

To make purchases from a particular country's store you must reside in that country, provide a bank card from a bank in that country with a verifiable billing address in that country. That would be the circumstances that you must meet to change your account from the UK to the USA. And for the iTunes app to allow you to change the account from one country to another, you must have a zero balance regarding any redeemed gift cards or certificates.

Every time that you change the country for your account all of your previous purchases will disappear from the purchases list. You can rehabilitate the purchases individually as updates become available, but only if the content is sold in the store to which you have switched your account.

Switching your account from one country to another can get quite complicated and as a trans-national resident myself, I suggest that you instead create a separate Apple ID and iTunes/Mac App Store account for each country in which you qualify to make purchases
