My TextEdit used to open to a blank document and I could just start typing or pasting text. Now it opens instead to a directory of existing text documents in iCloud. I can't find anything in TextEdit Preferences to change this back.

Launch TextEdit select On My Mac button at the top and select New Document from the button in the lower left.
Thanks, but now it opens to the directory of my Mac. If I have to open to a directory, I'd just as soon open to iCloud. I discovcers that "Command N" will get me a blank document from there.
