I have recently had this problem. It happens when the charging process starts, fails and starts again very quickly creating the beeping noise you get when you connect to a power source with the lightening plug. With my large iPad there were 5 possible sources of this problem, the iPad battery, the lightening connection within the iPad, the USB cable, the part that plugs into the 3 pin wall socket or the USB transformer section of the plug that you plug the USB cable into and that you can detach from the main plug (only comes with iPad with a two part 12W plug with USB connection, not the iPad Mini which use a single 5W plug with USB connection). I did some research on the internet but the advice was pretty well limited to turning your iPad off and on in different ways.

Luckily I have two iPads with connectors so in my case I was able to track this back to a failure in the USB transformer part of the plug. All other elements worked fine when used with a replacement transformer. I also found that the faulty transformer worked OK after it had cooled for a while but the fault came back.

Luckily you can buy replacements from Apple for around £15 http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD836B/B/apple-12w-usb-power-adapter?fnode=3c

Hope that helps others.

Connect your pad to the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Let it charge over night. Then reset your pad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

If that didn't correct the problem Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

This usually indicates the iPad is not charging properly. Are you using the wall charger?

Plug the cable into the USB port of your computer. The iPad will indicate not charging, however, it is charging but very slowly. Does the beeping stop?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

 Cheers, Tom 😉

Hello again TEX

Unfortunately, I have to report that even though your advice was good for a onetime fix, my iPad showed the same symptoms when I next plugged in my charger.

As it is in its second year of warranty, I took it to the store (John Lewis of U.K.) and they have happily sent it away to be fixed. I tell you this so that anyone else following this thread can gain some encouragement!

Yours David
