I have been having problems that I suspect are related to a Lucida Grande system font. I discovered that Lucida Grande in my System/Library/Font folder is a ttc (Windows) version, so I reinstalled 10.6.8 from my system disk. The same ttc Windows font is there. This does not seem right. How do I restore the Apple ttf font?

I noticed there are two or three other Windows TrueType fonts in the system folder. Is this normal?
Yes. AquaKana and STHeiti Light are also supposed to be ttc fonts.

Ever since OS X's first release, all .ttf and .ttc fonts have been usable on the Mac with no conversion or third party software necessary. So being used on a Mac even for a system font isn't wrong, or unusual.
In Mountain Lion, 8 of the System folder fonts, and 47 of the Library fonts installed by OS X are .ttc.
