If I understand your question correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not showing any content after updating. I believe your symptoms may be related to those outlined in the following resource:

Thanks for your reply.
Actually, what I meant to say was that my iTunes has all of my music and podcasts, but my iPod is blank, and when I plug it in, iTunes stops working.
I've tried updating iTunes to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.
