What is your current OS? Check to see if you have Bootcamp Assistant in Applications/Utilities. If so, you can run Windows on a separate partition or use one of the programs to install it so you don't have to reboot.

Parrallels

VirtualBox

VM Fusion

I have an iMac (2008) and a MacBook Pro (2011) which use Mountain Lion with no problem.

Please look under the  menu/About this Mac to see how much RAM you have and then press More Info and see what Mac you are using. Then post that information - it is useful to those trying to help.

Boot Camp 5, which is what you should have, will support Windows 7 or 8 and some earlier versions of Windows.

Before you decide what to do, you need to decide how you want your computer to work with Windows. If you don't mind having to reboot the computer to work with Mac OS or Windows, then Boot Camp will work fine. If you want to switch between the two without having to reboot, then one of the programs I provided links for would probably be a better choice.

Here is some information about Boot Camp to help you decide what you want to do.
