Dragging mpeg-4 movies into iTunes

I have mpeg-4 files that I have dragged out of my movie directory on my iTunes so that I can view them on my various iDevices if I choose to. When I do this does iTunes create a "duplicate" file and take up more disk space or does it simply create a link to the file I have in my Movie
