Using iPhone in elantra 2013 not reading media when connected to iPod connection

Hello everyone,

Having a little trouble here. I dropped my iPhone 5 last week and apple swapped out a new one through my AppleCare plus since I shattered my screen. I have become accustomed to plugging my iPhone into the USB input with my normal USB to lightning cable. My old iphone worked great, plugged it in, read the media and started playing, and I could control playback through the car.

With this new phone l, when I plug it in, the radio says reading media and never finishes, gives up and the radio comes back on. I turned my iPhone off and back on and it read it find once but next time I was in the car, same issue where it couldn't read the media. Obviously rebooting my phone each time to use the iPod mode is stupid and I could use the Bluetooth audio but I lose substantial quality and the ability to see what's playing on the radio display.

Obviously the only thing that's changed is the phone so I am not sure what to try. I could do hard reset and restore but I fear that is a waste of time. Any suggestions? I'm gonna try another cable I have to see if that helps though the current cable worked fine before this new iPhone

Any thoughts? Anyone have an elantra 2013 or similar Hyundai and year with a similar problem?

Thanks!

TTim. I had the same problem with my phone and my Elantra. Turned out it's the new cable. I found that if I use a cheap knockoff cable, the car reads the phone just fine: the song info appears on the display and I can skip tracks with the steering wheel controls. APparently the new 8 pin lightning cables, while faster and all that, don't allow for info to flow both ways and make it hard for the car to communicate with the phone. A knockoff cable (I found o e for like $2), while inferior, works better in this situation.

I hope this helped.

No problem. Just letting you know, though. I went that route originally and it works, but you cannot see the song and artist displayed or control tracks via the car controls. I wouldn't be so quick to hand apple an extra $39 ($35 on amazon) for an adapter they should have supplied for free when they rendered all our hardware useless.

I like apple products, but loyalty to a bottom-line driven corporation is a one way street.

I agree. I actually found the adapter on some site for $8, some deal site and it looks legit apple. The key now is to find the oem cable.

I have gotten used to using the wifi audio but the quality on that is noticeably worse and also, another glitch happens 2 out of 5 times where it won't connect the audio and I have to turn off the Bluetooth, turn it back on and re pair it. I honestly think a lot of these problems relates to hyaundai since I have never had this much trouble with either the dock or wifi connections.
