If the iPhone 5 is sold in India then that implies nano-sim cards are available there - the iPad Mini takes the same size sim as the iPhone 5
What sim card a device uses : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5554

May 26, 2013 4:06 AM in response to Sivadu69by King_Penguin,If the carrier does nano-sims then yes - as the iPhone 5 uses nano-sims, then any carrier in India that sells (or on which you can use) iPhone 5s should be able to supply you with a nano-sim for an iPad Mini.
Have you checked on the site of the carrier that you'd like to use to see if they sell the iPad Mini and/or nano-sims to use with it ?

May 26, 2013 4:23 AM in response to Sivadu69by King_Penguin,I don't know which carriers are in India, and which ones have nano-sims.
Are you currently in the US ? The Apple stores don't ship overseas.

May 26, 2013 6:34 AM in response to Sivadu69by King_Penguin,There are two models of cellular iPad Minis sold in the US. One is aimed at the CDMA carriers in the US (Verizon, Sprint), the other one GSM (e.g. AT&T) - both have a nano-sim slot, and both cover the same GSM bands (the bands are listed here).
As far as I know all iPads are unlocked, but it you buy it direct from a carrier (as opposed from, for example, Apple) then you may have to sign up to a contract with the carrier.
