i formate my HD without backup files than i found my cd is not working do i need to configure and how?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

your cd drive or a cd disc?
and how not working what are you expectations?
what do you experience?
how does your experience differ from your expectations making you feel something is a mess?
