Q: lost my ratings when manually transferring

I got a new mbp. I did not use use Migration Assistant because there were many app and app related files and files from old deleted apps that I did not want to migrate.

I used file sharing to transfer over my music files and the export library and export playlist from itunes on my old mpb and then imported those into itunes on my new mbp. Ratings as well as Last played did not copy over.

Are there any preference of other files I should be copying over in addition. I need to be careful because my old mpb was funning Snow Lion. My new mbp is running Mountain Lion.

Or is there another way I should have migrated these files. I tried Home Sharing

Please do not tell me to go back and use Migration Assistant as a solution. I really don't want to muck-up my new mpb with a lot of old uneeded files and it would be impossible for me to know which old un-needed files to delete
