Mirror iPhone contact list in iMessage?

I have just begun using Messages and really enjoy being able to respond to text messages from my computer, even if my phone is right next to me. However, all messages received in Messages appear with no conact name, just the phone number. Is there a way to migrate my iPhone's contact list to Messages so the messages received show up like they do on my iPhone? This might also allow me to start new messages to contacts which haven't yet appeared in Messages. Thanks

HI,

On the iPhone and on the Mac there is an iCloud setting.

On the Mac it is in System Preferences > iCloud.

This has several items that can then be synced across iCloud able computers and iCloud able iOS devices.

On the Phone it is in Settings and then a scroll down a little to see the iCloud Setting.

They need to be set to the same Apple/iCloud ID.

Then both have to have Contacts ticked for Syncing.
