I have an old iBook, I forget the specifics as I don't have it on hand. It doesnt start up and displays a gray screen with an apple. What should I do?

I think it is an iBook G4 or something, if I remember correctly. It is quite old, as I even researched the thing on Wikipedia. (I'm now using a MBP) I tried turning it on to see if it still works well, and all I would get is the gray screen forever. I tried using different tricks and keyboard combinations to get it to work, and nothing. Anything I can do? I figure if it is a computer that has been wiped clean of data and documents, it should still be useful, I think. THanks.

Other things to try.

See if you can open the disc drive. Depress the mouse pad at startup. If you get it open, insert a system disc & see if it will start from the disc. Depress the C key at startup.

Will it boot in Safe Mode? See

Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.

Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
