my wallpaper won't change on Mac Book Pro Retina

I change my wallpaper in system preferences and when I reboot it comes back with the same photo every time....a high resolution one.

Try deleting the Desktop settings file. Open a Finder window, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart. Finally, you will be able to change your wallpaper
