i was just wondering what exactly will this update change and will it delete anything?

If you are talking about iOS 6.1.4 and you have an iPhone 4 then this update is not for you, it only applies to iPhone 5 and has to do with a speakerphone profile issue

And to complement, any iOS update is akin to installing a new Mac OS or Windows version. There is always a risk of data loss. That is why we recommend that all updates be done thru iTunes and using local storage for the backup.
