If I delete an iMessage which hasn't delivered yet before it sends as SMS, will it send as SMS anyway?

I sent an iMessage, and it sat for a while without saying 'delivered' at the bottom. I am guessing this is because the phone is off? Normally when this happens it will automatically send as an SMS a few minutes later.

My question is, if I delete the iMessage before it says 'delivered' and also before it sends as an SMS, will it still automatically send as an SMS and not tell me?

Not seeing Delivered does not mean the message was not delivered. The Delivered indicator is not foolproof or always accurate, so deleting a successfully sent message will not mean the message has not or will not be delivered.

I prefer keeping Send as SMS off for iMessage. This way if an iMessage cannot be sent for whatever reason, I can manually select the unsent message and chose send as SMS. If not, the message won't be sent.

Thanks for your reply - my question was more about deleting an iMessage before it sends as an SMS. Previously I'd sent a text and it had sat at 'iMessage' for a while, then automatically a few minutes later sent as an SMS.

I wanted to know if you could prevent it from being sent as an SMS by deleting it before it happens. Or is it all automated and in the airwaves by then and will be sent as an SMS anyway?
