Snow leopard quicktime player X not playing recordings.

I have recently updated my mac to snow leopard and I have tried recording the screen, when I attempt to play it back, it says The movie “Screen Recording.mov” can’t be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.. the link leads me to here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3775?viewlocale=en_US

can anyone help me resolves this problem so that I can start viewing the files?
