Cannot download apps after updating 2-step verification in gmail account

Cannot download apps from iTunes after updating gmail account to 2-step verification. I receive a message from the itunes store saying my password is not correct. I have gone into google mail account settings to add an application specific password (ASP) for my itunes account, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. This one-time only password is supposed to update the itunes app to the 2-step verification process, and afterwards you can continue to use your original password. Does anyone have a solution to this issue?

Morning wbird1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you forgot your Apple ID password

Go to iforgot.apple.com to reset your password. You will need to provide your Recovery Key and be able to receive a temporary verification code on one of your trusted devices.
