Wireless keyboard won't connect

This didn’t work for me cause I have a password, so when I restart my system it shows me the password space for me to type in my password.

Without the keyboard how do I do that?

Please I need help with this ASAP, anyone please.

The few times this has happened to my, I have a "junk" drawer which, among other mice, trackpads and keyboards has three old USB Apple keyboards. I just plug in an old keyboard to enter the password and continue.

(Apple wired keyboards are available all over eBay starting at about $18. )

Here's a trick I might not have posted here. It works without a battery swap. It has worked, without fail, every time for me during the last six re-pairings.

I use Photoshop occasionally and if I don’t close everything else down, after about 15 minutes, the Bluetooth keyboard just goes on a lunch break and doesn’t return. It’s quick and 100% effective for me.

1. Preferences -> Bluetooth ->Advanced -> <b>uncheck</b> the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer
2. Restart computer
3. Preferences -> Bluetooth ->Advanced -> <b>check</b> the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer
4. Restart the computer

This just happened to me... I was about to freak out ant macOS prompted me with the pairing code. I tried the steps mentioned above but didn't work. it suddenly worked.

fun fact: I reached for my iPad to search the web on this topic and iOS refused to show the onscreen keyboard!!! I had to hard reset my iPad....

I had just installed 16gb of ram into my 2012 Macbook pro, and I just recieved a refurbished wireless apple keyboard.

I popped in batteries, turned keyboard on, then went into preferences on the laptop, and bluetooth, the little spinning circle came up that it was searching for devices, wouldnt find anything, I had messed with this thing for 45 minutes and checked a few YouTube videos.

Lo and behold, MY LED DESK LAMP 5 inches away...... was giving off interference during pairing.

I moved the Macbook Pro onto my lap and was trying one more time and boom, everything showed, even a device in the next room. So lesson learned is, bluetooth (especially during pairing) does not like any interference at all.

This also explains why I have to re-pair my wireless headphones sometimes as well.

TLDR - Interference from my LED desk lamp was keeping BT from seeing any devices trying to pair.

Put laptop on my lap (moved away from interference source, paired once more and it worked.

Thank you for the instructions, but what do you do if this keeps happening? Can't constantly redo the pairing. My keyboard is blinking -- I have paired and repaired it many times, but this problem keeps coming back. The batteries are fine, restart the computer: done; turn bluetooth off and then on again: done; don't release button on keyboard until you get response: done... nothing seems to work, and it can't be normal to have to constantly go through the pairing process again. Any thoughts?

I want to offer another troubleshooting tip. I am using my wife’s former Bluetooth keyboard on my iPad. When I am home, I cannot get the keyboard to pair no matter what. One day, while bashingat the keyboard for 30 minutes trying to force a pairing, I heard her cry out from the next room “How are you typing into my document?“ It was then that I realized she never deleted her “pairing“ from her computer, so when ever I was in the same house, the keyboard would fist connect to her computer and not my ipad.

Once we deleted the profile from her Bluetooth, everything worked as it should.

I experienced something similar to this: All of a sudden my iMac wouldn't

'recognize' the Bluetooth keyboard - I tried to seek help via my

wife's iPad, and to my surprise I saw that the iPad and the keyboard

were 'paired'! When I broke that connection, the iMac and the keyboard

'paired' again!

Happened again last night: Couldn't use the keyboard to type my password and consequently could not open the iMac...the keyboard turned out to be paired with the iPad, and when I broke that connection everything went back to normal! 🙂

(I'm positive that nobody in our household deliberately had made any changes to the Bluetooth setup).

I have a update when you try to pair a Apple Keyboard (2011) with a MacBook (Early 2016) - Before step 4 you should release the power button on the keyboard and the repress as you click pair in the settings window. If you keep pressing from step 4 to 5 it will not pair.

None of this worked for me. I have an iMac, OSX 10.11.6. All was working until I did a Security Update 2017-004. Had to restart and neither wireless mouse or keyboard worked. Mouse just needed me to reconnect and worked. But keyboard will not connect or even be recognized now. Multiple restarts, checking batteries, checking Bluetooth preferences. Keyboard was showing up on bluetooth preference but not now. Even keyboard system preference does not show keyboard. Did the SMC reset too.

Keyboard works on another mac so doubt it is battery or keyboard problem, and more to do with the Security Update.

Problem solved. I had set my wireless keyboard to the side since it was not syncing and was using my wired keyboard. Well today I laid a book on the wireless keyboard by mistake and after awhile I got the window to type in the 6 digit sync code. Now maybe it was just coincidence with my laying the book on it by mistake but right now it is working fine. Was without wireless keyboard for 2 days before this happened.
