Why won't Find My Friends refresh to current location?

My Find My Friends app rarely works correctly. Every now & then it will show me the current location of the "friend" I am looking at but most of the time it will only show me where someone was 30 mins ago or however long. That really seems pointless as I'm not interested in where someone HAS been. I thought the idea of the app is to find someone's current location? Pushing the refresh wheel does nothing at all.

I have tried deleting the app & re-installing it many times along with rebooting the phone. I have an iPhone 4S & I have confirmed that I have all updates & I am running the most recent iOS version.

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?

It's been more than 4 1/2 years since the this post was made and it remains on the first page of Google results for "How do I make Find My Friends refresh locations?" The issue STILL exists. For the record. I'm using a 6+ with current iOS. There has never been a solution or even a good explanation for why this happens or how to work around it.

so basically what you are saying is you have no clue and neither does Apple, and this is just a ****** app to use. Got it.

Been having the same issue. Is this because the person stopped sharing their location? Or does it say "Location Not Available" when they stop sharing?

I tried uninstalling the app & also quitting it but it kept saying '1 hour ago'
