Q: parental controls

In what I read about parental controls, I have not found the answer to this question yet.  It seems that access to parental controls is an all-on or all-off option or requires me to sign-in to allow him access which is not going to work for us.

I would like to set up an iPad for my son/student to have wifi access and access to specific programs at any time, while blocking access to other programs at designated times.   He will be using the iPad in school for educaiton purposes (special needs IEP approved).  He will be allowed to use a task manager, online text books, and other programs to help his education and access the school's wifi during school hours but only for approved programs/websites.   In addition, I would like to set up for other programs and games to be allowed for so much time during certain time periods - for example he may have 2 hours of game time anywhere between 4pm and 9pm - his choice of which games from a list I've allowed and his choice of when he plays.   Is this possible?

Hi nikev, perhaps either you or his instructor could enable Guided Access to keep him in the app he should be using at the time: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5509

Thanks for your response.  Although Guided Access is great for when I hand a kid my phone to play with, it will not be what we need for this iPad use in school.  It has to be completely set up by us and not require any extra work on the part of the teachers as part of the agreement to allow him to use this technology.  I would have thought with so many advanced-minded schools (on the other end of the spectrum from ours, I'm sorry to say) using iPads in the classroom that there has to be a way to set up these types of controls so kids aren't sitting in Algebra sending messages on Facebook.
