to do list

OSX 10.8.3

Greetings—

Somewhere there's a "To Do" list (not the one connected to Mail) that allows one to keep running tabs on things to do, with checkboxes to show completion, after which the completed items are on a 'reverse' side of the artwork. It rode along on the desktop. After a recent OS upgrade, it seems to have gone AWOL. How can it be retrieved, if at all?

Found a good substitute: Reminders.app, which is provided by Apple in version 1.0. It was in my Applications folder, and must have been part of a recent upgrade, but I didn't know it was there.
