I downloaded my songs but didn't have my ipod connected, how do I sync them to my ipod?

My husband and I share a computer but have different ipods. My husband named his new ipod the same as the old one (I have the older one from 2007). Is this a problem? I downloaded five songs and I find them under purchased but I can't sync them onto my ipod. How do I change the name on my old ipod?

First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed so we can see connected devices:

Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:

We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
