Can only individual songs be played on ipod shuffle 4th generation?

How can I get just one song to be played at a time on my ipod shuffle 4th generation? I have placed all my single songs on individual playlists (three of them), and whilst playing the tracks I have switched the on/off button, top right, to the middle. This has still not made the songs play just once and THEN SWITCH OFF at the end, how I would like it.

Someone please help. I specifically require a song to just play once as I use my Shuffle for meditation and hypnosis use.
