Q: Safari 6.0.4 is compressing all web sites and images from both sides

My MBP 13: (mid 09, 8 gb ram, OS X Mtn Lion v OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

I much prefer Safari but about a month ago Safari started showing compressed screens of website or other info.

(I tried to post a screenshot here but couldn't figure out how to do it, sorry)

I've tried a few searches on this Board w/o help; and can't figure it out myself. MacBook Pro has OSX Mtn Lion; Boot Camp/Win 7 using VM Ware Fusion (current version).

Safari worked fine for years, across all the OSX versions I've had till now.

Other browsers do not have this display problem (Firefox, Chrome).

I tried to post a screen shot of the garbled/messed up page, but couldn't figure out how to attach the shot of the screen in this condition.

TIA,

Howard/Penacious H

thanks for replying; YES, I clear the cache every day. Didn't fix it

I tried clicking the camera icon, btw...it puts up a dark square with the label "Insert image' but (ha ha) w/o directions about how to do so.

I had already tried saving the screen shot in Paint Brush, as a help site suggested; I tried Command-C to copy the image and tried to paste it and it didn't attach/embed. Tried dragging it to the Insert Image space without success as well.

I'd be happy to attach it if you can give me a bit more info about how to finish attaching it. Thanks for your time.

Open the screen shot in Preview.

Then from the Preview menu bar top of your screen click File > Open and navigate to the image then select it then click Open.

Back to the menu bar, click File > Export

Click the pop up menu where you see:  Format and select JPEG then click Save.

Click the camera icon in the reply here.

Select From Your Computer > Choose file > Insert image

If you still can't insert an image, try troubleshooting Safari plugins and extensions.

I'm having the same issue and it's quite annoying.. I've cleared cache and have tried with private browsing as well. Safari will compress images on certain sites but not all..

Hi Carolyn: want to thank you for your tips. What fixed it was changing the settings of one extension, called "All pages zoom" somehow the zoom setting was at 50% vs 100%, and that led to the scrunching of the sites on the screen!  Good thing it did because I STILL had trouble loading the screen shot--did everything you indicated to do but when I click the camera icon in the message box, all that came up was a dark gray translucent box with the words "load image" but no indication of how to do that!

In any event, I won't worry about it because the problem is solved thanks to you!

    Much obliged!
