Brand New Motorola Surfboard SB6141 and brand new Airport Express with Comcast

I have done some pretty extensive searching and I don't think I have found anything that applies exactly to my situation. I just bought both items brand new today from Best Buy. The cable modem works fine when plugged directly into the computer by ethernet and the iPhones can see the Airport. The Windows computer can also connect to the Airport, but the Airport can't connect to the modem with the same ethernet cable that works fine with the computer (in other words, don't think the cable is the issue). All I get is the solid, then flashing amber light. When I try to connect to the Aiport through the WiFi settings on the iPhone, it says "an unexpected error has occurred".

I have tried the Airport Utility on the iPhone and it can't see anything. Don't have Windows 7, so can't get the utility for Windows.

I'm guessing there is a disconnect between the modem and the router, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Had very similar problems, worked on this for multiple hours, even had a representative from Time Warner cable in NC come to the house. After he replaced a few rusty connectors outside the house and checked the signal strengths, he came to the conclusion that "the router was bad" and "those things look expensive" (things being a $99 Airport Express circa 2012).

Using a Motorola Surfboard and an Airport Express.

Again, I tried the numerous solutions and waiting periods as well as the dance of "plug this in, in this order".

Then I stumbled upon a post refering to this as a DNS problem. As the saying goes, 'it's always the last place you look', I moved into the AE's DNS settings, changed them to OpenDNS's Family Shield (we've used these in the past, I'm sure Google DNS or similar would work as well), applied the settings to the AE (AE rebooted), and viola, back up and running.

I did notice that it took a minute or two for our connection speeds to get back up to normal. Ran a speed test or two and after a few minutes our speeds were back to where they should be.

Hi all - I just switched to Comcast and I bought my own Motorola SB6141. The tech left and it didnt actually work until we unplugged the modenm and restarted it. The TV worked, the VOIP owrked, but not the internet. When everything came back up it was working and we changed the name of the network and the LAN, and it worked for a few days and it was slow. Since I bought my modem at BB and its withing the return policy I'm going to return it. Based on the discussions I have read throughout this forum, it seems to be a total headache to try and get SB6141 to work with the setup I have. If you check the list of approved devices by Comcast, the SB6141 is on there, but ther are other devices that have gone through more thorough testing - http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net . Most of the devices that have undergome all 3 tiers of testing will be the best bet. The downside is that you will have to call their tech support and get them to approve your device and get it set up. The comcast forum doesn't paint a pretty picture as well with this modem. Looks cool, though - it has that APPLE WHITE cleanliness!

Any other suggestions I would love to read more.

Thanks and I will keep you posted with the modem I choose and how it works out

You will need to clear your cache-

You can delete cookies in Safari by going to the preferences and clicking the "Remove all Website Data..." option in the Security section of the preferences. You can click the "Details" button to do this for specific sites instead of all of them.

You can also choose the Reset Safari option in the Safari menu to check options to remove the cookies, and also reset other aspects of Safari.

To clear the cache only, go to the Safari preferences and click the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" option in the "Advanced" section, followed by choosing "Empty Cache" from this new menu.

After that, unplug your router, then your modem. Plug them back in and after a short wait, you should be good to go.
