Google Contacts sync?
Will sync only start when launching Contacts app? Or is there a way to sync in the background without using Google Apps for Business?

Thanks, I already have this up and running. The question was if there is a way to sync in the background without using Google Apps for Business.
The directions that wjosten linked to do not require Google Apps for business. If you set up a CardDAV account, it will sync in the background. Click on the big blue "Get Started" button under the heading "Contacts'.
For me it only syncs when I open the Contacts app. If I edit a contact on Google Contacts it does not get synced to my device until I open Contacts again. Am I missing something?
It works fine for me on my iPad. Try deleting the CardDAV account and adding it back.
Just to make sure we mean the same thing: if you do the following:
1. Open Contacts app and let it sync to Google.
2. Edit a person record at https://www.google.com/contacts.
Will this change be immediately auto-synced to your device?
