How can I transfer my backup files to a new drive?

I've followed all the steps - both drives are the correct file format, and have the box unchecked.

But I get an error each time I try, and then I can't unmount the drives because it says they're "in use" :-/

Please help!

I'm trying to reorganize all of my external drives right now, and I really don't want my backup files on the same disc as all of my road videos.

Is the drive you are trying to copy the Time Machine backup to at least the same size as the original?

No. The "original" is 500GB and the "new" one is 300GB.

The existing backups file is about 103GB... and there's more than enough room on the "new" disc for this.

For the record, there are about 28GB worth of other files on the "new" disc, presently.
