Have you tried connecting the printer to you MBP and adding the printer via the System/Print & Fax preference pane?
If you don't find the drivers then download an apply this updater: HP Printer Drivers v.2.14 for OS X. Then try adding the printer again.

whats an MBP...sry im new to macs?? and where is it?
That's short for MacBook Pro.
i will give it a go...thank you
i tried both suggestions and neither worked, looks like i may need to get a new printer 😟
According to the HP driver page for that model there is no OS X driver for it: Software & Driver Downloads HP LaserJet 1018 Printer | HP® Support
I know for certain that the free foo2zjs driver works for this printer....
However, you need to be a geek (be comfortable with Terminal and willing to use open source software) to use it.
First get foomatic and ghostscript:

Then, get foo2zjs:
Hi,
Indeed the 1018 is not compatible with Mac OS X:
Try the following workaround and check if that may work:
If that fails as well you may also try the 3rd aprty F002zjs drivers which seems to support the 1018:
Best of luck,

Many thanks, Shlomi!! Your fix worked like a charm with my late 2012 iMac (21.5" 2.7GHz Intel Core i5) and my 2006 HP Laser Jet 1018. You saved this cheapskate the cost and time of getting a new utility printer - thank you!
