Q: Can device be tracked if it has been reformat before the lock request completed?

Hi,

 

My macbook was stolen a couple of days back and from iCloud I try to locked it out and play sound but since it is offline, it definitely wouldn't take effect. My question is if they reformat my mac, can the request still be effective or it's just wouldn't work?

 

 

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities

     

    If the MacBook Pro is formatted, you won't be able to track it. To track the MacBook, it must be logged in iCloud with your Apple ID and it must be connected to Internet. If they format the MacBook Pro, they will use a different Apple ID, so you won't be able to track it or lock it
