Can't get my HP Photosmart Premium to work on Mac OS 10.8

Bought my new Macbook Pro w/retina display and I cannot get my "air" enabled printer to talk to my computer via my wireless network. It worked fine on my old Macbook, but this is frustrating the heck out of me. I've downloaded the update from apple, I've removed the HP software from my computer and re-loaded it. I've tried starting the process with the USB cord connected, but once I remove the cord (after being instructed to in the setup) the printer disappears and I can't get it to work. Stinks because I have my iPad and iPhone connected to it, or at least had them connected, now I can't print from them either. HELP!!!!!

So when you open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add, is the HP shown in the Nearby Printers window or the Default view, if that is the window that opens?

That's the issue, it doesn't show up when I open the print and scan button. I have to enter the IP address and then it will add the printer, but the scan function is missing and the printer is named as the IP address, not the actual printer.

Try the steps in the document below. That should help you get the printer back on the network and stable. Let me know what happens.

Shane_R@HP, can't thank you enough. The changing of the settings worked like a charm. Redid the IP address and shut down the modem for 30 seconds and then I ran the installer and my printer was right there in the list of printers to add! Really appreciate the help!

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I had trouble installing on 10.8.

I then found this particular support page:

Be patient with the download, it takes some time ... When it has downloaded, follow the install instructions. It works well.

I use the printer through usb but my wife uses wireless from her PC laptop.

Hi Shane, my photosmart premium C310a was working fine but now my Macbook air says printer not connected, I have tried re installing but it asks for a cable which I do not have of course! Can you help please? Pearl

Hi pearl linda,

It sounds to me like you need to reconfigure the printer for the wireless network. I suggest using the following link for easy to follow instructions. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/wireless-printing-center/printer-setup-help.h tml?jumpid=re_r11400_wireless_easy_cs_redirect.

The link that is include is a bad link or doesn't work anymore. This is a very frustrating problem. I am continually told that "the printer is not connected" when it is very clearly STILL connected to the network. Generally I'm still able to print by plugging in the USB (VERY ANNOYING) but now, even while connected to the USB the dialog box is stating "The printer is not connected".
