I am going to China. I have a VPN account from work. Is it possible to login to our work servers while overseas and then surf the net (certain sites like Facebook are blocked in China)? Is this the best strategy? Of course, I will need to be on WiFi to do that.
What would you suggest?

So long as the VPN host you're connecting to isn't blocked, it's technically possible. Whether it's legal is another question entirely...
Why would it be illegal? And I would be surprised if our site is blocked. Let's just say we are a well-known cultural center here in the States.
China is constantly employing new technologies to detect & block VPN's...that's simply the way it is once you're behind the "Great Firewall". Here are 5 VPN's that were working in China as of April this year:

FWIW, in my case in 2010, I used my company's in house VPN. I will be there again this July and I will use it (or attempt to) again.
Vpn easily work in china and unblock facebook and other thing with the help of vpn after every 5 months i gone to china for business trip and i am also using Hidemyass Service or Purevpn service use in chinaand easily enjoy the internet freedom
