Q: I have an iPad mini that won't even go into Recovery Mode

iPad mini won't power on.  (It belongs to a young lady in my Bible study group so I don't know what OS it has installed.)  I've tried all of the advised restore & recovery tips.  It will not boot into Recovery Mode at all.  I've held down the Sleep/Wake button - nothing happens.  I've held down simultaneously the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button - nothing happens.  I've held down the Home button while plugging it into the computer to force it into Recovery Mode - nothing happens.  I have attempted to charge with 3 different cables (all of which work on other devices), 3 different computers (Vista, Win 7 & MacBook - again all of which work with my iPad 4) several times.  It does not register with iTunes when you plug it in, of course.  (Again - My iPad 4 does on all computers and works just fine.)  I've attempted all of the above with the Hold toggle in both positions just to make sure I was getting it right.  The red slider never appears.  The Apple logo never appears.  A battery indicating a charge is needed never appears.  I'm at a loss.  And frustrated.  Please advise.

Philly-Phan, I don't think so.  It belongs to an 11-year-old girl who got it for Christmas, I believe.

Actually she got it in mid-March at Target.  (Just spoke to Mom.)  She plays on it all the time and when she plugged it in the other night to let it charge, it just wouldn't come on the next morning.

Oh and just for the record - I did hold the buttons down for at least 10 seconds each time.  I had read a post that it could take as long as 60 seconds for Recovery Mode and tried that a couple of times too.  Still nothing.

Assuming that you followed all of the steps in the support article correctly as you claim that you have, and if that didn' tdo any good, it's time for the child's mother to gather up the device and head off to an Apple Store and get their help. If the child received the iPad for Christmas, it's still under warranty. There is only so much that you can do in the way of troubleshooting and once all of that has been exhausted, it's time to get the Apple Experts involved.

That's exactly what I told her might be needed just an hour or two ago.  And she's actually only had it for 2 months from Target, so they should be good with the warranty.  Thanks, Demo.

I wish her all the best and kudos to you for all of your hard work trying to get the device up and running again!

I have this exact problem.  I was 2 months out of warranty and the guy at the apple bar was at a complete loss.  Could only offer me $50 toward a new one, which doesn't come close to a discount considering you can get them at Target for 200.  I still have a dead ipad a year later.  I wish there was a way to fix it.  I plugged it in one day before work and when I came home it was a goner.  Screen won't come on at all.  No apple icons or anything.  It won't enter recovery mode.  It wont reset.  It doesn't show or do anything when hooked up to the computer.  I'm going to try to take it to a repair shop somewhere soon and see if they think anything can be fixed.  I'm so frustrated because I did nothing to break it.... it's a software/Apple issue and nothing can be done to fix it after all that money to buy it.
