email files

When I receive emails that I want to keep for later use, I can set up files on my PC to move the emails to the different files.

On my ipad, there does not seem to be any way to move the emails from the inbox to another location for later review. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks

Sorry, wrong symbol. On my mail I have the little flag, little folder, little swoopy arrow, little trash can, little 'new message' icon.

The folder allows you to move mails. Sorry, I should have refreshed my memory first.

I have yahoo and hotmail via my iPad and while it honors folders I made in the accounts, I don't see a way to make them. Someone once told me that you could make folders, but I can't recall how they said they did it. If you access your mail via the web, you can make folders in that interface and the iPad will honor them.

There is an option to make another mail box. Tap on the e-mail account name, but the lower one, not the top one. Then edit and there's an option to make a new mailbox.

I am sorry I don't understand exactly what I need to do to set up additional file/mailbox so that I can move my emails for later review.

When I go to my email account and tap on the lower email account, I have 3 options: inbox, sent and trash. There is no option to make a new mailbox.

How do I access my mail via the web?

Is there something terribly wrong with the ipad that it won't offer something so basic as to filing emails for later review???

The exact where and what you can do varies from e-mail client to client. ANd by client I mean Yahoo vs Hotmail vs GMail etc.

I have yahoo and hotmail, so those are my points of reference. When I tap on the lower box I can then look up in the upper right corner of that side pane and see a button 'edit'. When I tap on that I can change things. The Mail app calls folders mailboxes....so to edit a mailbox within a mail account I'm really editing a folder.

When I tap edit, then down in the lower right corner of that side pane is 'new mailbox' and that's where I can make a new folder.

What I mean by web access is....to get at my yahoo mail I can go to yahoo.com and sign in, for my hotmail, hotmail.com, etc. So your e-mail client is whatever your ____ @emailclient.com is. Usually there is a web interface you can sign into to access your e-mail from anywhere via a browser like internet explorer or safari.

In my case, if I go to hotmail.com and make a new folder(mailbox) the iPad will honor that change and it'll show up on my iPad.

any help?

Actually,

ANd by client I mean Yahoo vs Hotmail vs GMail etc.

Those aren't clients. They are Mail Providers. An E-Mail Client is an application that allows you to view you email In this case the email client is the Mail App on the iPad. Ot the Mail App for one of the Email providers.

The ability to make mailboxes/folders depends not on the Mail Provider itself, but on the type of mail service it offers. IMAP ( Internet Message Access Protocol ) mail has the ability ot create new mailboxes. POP ( Post Office Protocol ) does not offer this ability.

To create new Mailboxes, the mail account needs to be of the IMAP variety.Examples of Mail Providers tha offer this type of Email service are Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc...)

With that said you can move an email from a POP account to an IMAP account's mail box from the iPad by using the little Folder icon.

So you could create a Review folder in one of your IMAP accounts and use that for your emails to review.

If the account is IMAP, tap on the account name in the Mailboxes Pane under the Accounts heading. That will open the Mail account. Tap on the Edit button at the top right corner of the pane, and thne on the New Mailbox button at the bottom right. This will allow you to create a new mailbox folder to put emails into.

You can look for the email you want to move, and using the Folder icon at the top, move it to the folder you just created.

I really appreciate your help but unfortunately I still don't know what to do. I have a desk top that uses Windows outlook. I also have a laptop that use Windows live mail. My internet provider is Cox. On both these Window emails, I can set up files to move my emails to.

I bought an ipad for my wife which she likes a lot, except for the email because she cannot move emails from inbox to another place for later review. Did Apple screw up in providing their email App without this feature? Did someone let Apple know?

I am in the middle of this Apple email App, and I don't know the next step to take to achieve what I want. Can you guide me to the next step?

We've already given you the steps. Again Apple did not fail to provide the feature, it depends on the type of email service she is using. Unlike a computer, the iPad depends on the features available to the Mail account being used.

If its a POP email, it won't have that option.

If you don't know what type of email your wife has you need to find out.

The steps for an IMAP type email account have been outlined above.

If you don't have the New Mailbox button then you can't add a new folder.

But again, many of the free mail providers offer this ability., So you can create an account for her in on of the providers so she can create new folders to store her emails in.

Again on the iPad's Mail APP:

If the account is IMAP,

1. Tap on the account name in the Mailboxes Pane under the Accounts heading. That will open the Mail account.

2.Tap on the Edit button at the top right corner of the pane,

3. and then on the New Mailbox button at the bottom right. This will allow you to create a new mailbox folder to put emails into.
