I don't know how to delete items to gain more icloud storage. What do I get rid of?

What exactly do I do to gain more icloud storage (short of buying more). I don't know what to delete to gain storage.

After selecting an app or backup, press the Edit button and delete data. Note that, if you remove your photos, named as “Camera Roll”, from iCloud, you will lose them from the backup, so it's important to connect your device to a Mac or PC and copy your photos there, so they won't be lost when you restore your phone

Photos in iCloud Photo Stream do not count as Storage. iCloud Photo Stream is for your convenient not a storage feature, it is used to stream photos to all your Apple devices. You have 1000 photos and 30 days to save it on computer.
