I want to re-enable spotlight search but when i write this command on terminal sudo mdutil -Ei on / it asks for my password. Then the cursor doesn't type anything. can you tell me why it is happening or an alterntive way to resolve the issue.

It's normal. UNIX-based systems don't show the password on Terminal when you are typing it, but it's detecting that you are typing your password. Type the password as usual and press the Enter key when you have finished, so the command will be run
i just diid that but now it's saying 'Spotlight server is disabled' .. ?
Open Terminal application and paste:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
