The iPod software update server could not be contacted?

I have a 4th Generation 8Gig iPod Touch. Right now it is currently running IOS 4.3.5. Ever since an update came out for the IOS System i have been trying to update my iPod but with no success.

I open iTunes and right away it recognizes my iPod. It suggests that i update the IOS System and i select yes. It then tries to update my iPod but then a message pops up saying "The iPod software update server could not be contacted".

I have tried syncing my iPod. It freezes on either the 1rst or 3rd out of 6 steps, depending on whatever it feels like doing. It used to freeze on the 3rd now it freezes on the 1rst.

I even tried to restore my iPod and start over. It cant even do that. I get the same error message that i got before from when i tried updating it.

I have tried following several suggestions including changing some settings in the LAN connection, even though i am not connected to a Local Area Network, we are in a rural place and we use a router.

I have also tried Running Diognostics under the help menu in iTunes. It says that the Internet connection is verafied, and the Network interfaces is verified, but the Secure link to iTunes Store failed. I selected help next to the option that failed, and then another page pops up, and its blank. Wait about a half a minute and it says iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn't connected to the internet. Well, yes i am connected to the internet because i am on this web page right now and others as well and they are all working. Besides, it also says in the Diognostic that i am connected to the internet.

So, does anyone think they can help? Please? I tried going to Best Buy (thats where i bought the iPod) and the lady at the counter said that she could not do anything. She recommended trying to restore it and see what happens (i tried, i get the same error message) and she said to try and delete some apps to make some space for it. Well, i dont see how that would help.

IOS 6 is currently out, and i would like to update my iPod to that. PLEASE HELP ME!

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 4.3.3, 4.3.5 IOS is not on the list

hi , to all

my name is Goutham sai .

i am here to say the problem which u r facing with update or restore in itunes . i go the solution to this problem .

first od all u need to unnistall all the apple components installed in your computer ( i.e apple mobility centre , apple software update , apple application support and itunes ) then ,

go to localdisk(c)/windows/system32/drivers/etc and then select host file and open with notepad . select all the matter and delete it . instead of it replace files given below .

FOR WINDOWS 7 , WINDOWS VISTA and WINDOWS SERVER 2008 :

# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.

# 127.0.0.1 localhost

# ::1 localhost

FOR WINDOWS XP or SERVER 2003 :

127.0.0.1 localhost

after copying ( run notepad in administrative mode ) save it as host file which is at localdisk(c)/windows/system32/drivers/etc . after that you install the latest itunes ( at present latest is itunes 11 )

now after opening itunes click update or restore it will be prosecced without errors .
