Sharing USB 1TB across the network to Windows computers

I cannot seem to share USB drives, or their folders. I can share folders on the internal HDD just fine. I can connect to the computer and see the volumes I am trying to share but when I go to open them I get an error message about not having permissions or that the path maybe wrong. I have an external 1TB drive that I am trying to share, I use to share it through I Windows Vista computer but we upgraded to an iMac. I am not sure if this has any thing to do with it but in the Sharing Preferneces when I select the drive under Shared Folders, the Users "Read & Write" option are grayed out. An ideas on how to set this up properly?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

I know you do not "speak windows" but if there is someone that does the exact wording of the error is:
"\\HOST-NAME\USB-NAME is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The parameter is incorrect."

With HOST-NAME and USB-NAME being different for obvious reasons.
