Q: Home sharing ok on iMac but not on iPad

Hello everyone- I am the proud owner of a brand new iMac (just arrived yesterday).

As part of this switch from the PC world I also went with Apple TV.  Currently at home I have an iPad (3G) and 2 daughters each with their own MacBook Pros.

In trying to set up home sharing, I have found that I can see the 2 duaghter's iTunes library (they have their own iTunes/Apple ID) on the iMac and, with some messing around, even on the Apple Tv device.  However, I cannot see anything other than my own (shared) library on the iPad.

Before posting I scoured the internet and this forum because about the last thing I wanted to do was post a question which had already been posted.  If I have somehow missed a similar posting please accept my newbie error.

Thank you.

Thank you for the very prompt response.  I have already gone through each of those but (obviously) to no avail.

Do all of you have iTunes running and have enabled sharing your libraries via iTunes preferences? For Home Sharing to work each computer must have iTunes running from my understanding of it, and the libraries must be shared, I believe.

Yes they do.  And I know everything must be set up because each of the MacBooks as well as the new iMac can see each other's shared libraries.  It's just the iPad which seems to be having the issue seeing the MacBook libraries (those are the ones with separate Apple ID's).

Perhaps I'm stretching the limits of Home Sharing but it just seems weird that I cannot see on the iPad whle logged in using my Apple ID that which I can see on the iMac (and Apple TV) while logged in using my Apple ID.

    Thank you.

I'm afraid I'm of little help, then. I don't know if having different libraries based on different Apple IDs should matter. It seems that would obviate the idea of "sharing." You do need to use the same configuration information on each computer's Home Sharing setup. But I really haven't a clue why the problem seems limited in your case to just your iPad.

What version of iOS is installed on your iPad? You must have 4.3 or later to use Home Sharing.

I agree- seems this should be more straight-forward as long as each of these Apple ID's are authorized.

Anyway, from what I can tell this is a bit of a problem, at least others seem to be having similar issues.  So maybe Apple will make a change to support what I'm trying to do.

    iPad is on V 6.1.3.

Thank you Kappy.  I appreciate your help.

Similar issue.  Home sharing from PC host works on old iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S BUT not on iPad Mini and iPhone 5????

Checked all obvious solutions as well.

I'm having the same problem.  I have a macbook pro running iTunes 11.0.4.  I have an Apple TV which can stream movies from my macbook pro using home sharing.  I have an iphone 4s and an ipad mini, both of which can't see the content from my itunes.  I have configured home sharing on all devices, restarted my wifi router, restarted my macbook pro, killed the video app on the ipad and restarted, I also signed out of home sharing and signed back in.  I'm at a loss as to why it won't show the content on my iphone and ipad.
