Q: How do I disable the internal iSight camera on my MacBook Pro without disabling the external USB camera I am using?

I need to disable the internal iSight camera on my MacBook Pro. The application I want to use does not have a way to select the camera (like you can with skype and chat). It is defaulting to the internal camera. I found a script to disable the camera.

But, it disables both cameras. I just want to disable the iSight camera. I am using mountain lion.

Thoughts?

    (1) The easiest thing I can suggest is to check Help or User Support for the app you want to use.  They should be best able to tell you how to use their product with your system.

    (2) Alternatively, you can try occupying your built-in camera with some other application before you launch the app you want to use that was not written to allow camera selection.  It is possible that the third party app you want to use may then default to the a connected but previously unoccupied external camera.

Here's the method I would try:

    • Disconnect all external cameras and restart your Mac.

    • Launch an app with a user-selectable camera that you do not want to use.

    • Configure the app that you do not want to use to select your internal iSight.

    • If desired, minimize the app that you do not want to use, or simply ignore it.

    • Connect the external camera that you will use with the app that you do want to use.

    • Launch the app that you do want to use.

    • Check to see whether the app that you do want to use is working as you want.
